Fulton Lions Members In Syracuse Honor Flight Mission 009

Reynolds, a Navy veteran, and Chirello, an Army veteran, both served during the Korean War.  On April 29, Honor Flight flew 80 Central NY veterans to our nation’s capital.  Their mission: “We fly our heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect together at their memorials.”  

Honor Flight paid all expenses for the trip which included visits to the WWII, Korean, Vietnam, and Air Force memorials, Arlington National Cemetery, and a rousing heroes welcome at Syracuse’s Hancock International Airport on their return.

FULTON LIONS CLUB DONATES $1,000 TO UNITED WAY’S STONE SOUP

FULTON, NY – The Fulton Lions Club recently donated $1,000 to the Stone Soup fundraiser for local food pantries, sponsored by the United Way of Greater Oswego County,  (UWGOC), it was announced by President David Guyer. “The Fulton Lions Club has contributed to this project for a number of years,” Guyer said. “It is of vital importance that we all pull together to support our local food pantries and the clients they serve.”

This year’s event, held April 11, at Holy Trinity Parish in Fulton, had soup donated from Blue Moon Grill, Tavern on the Lock, Mimi’s Drive-In, and the Foursome Diner, said Ali McGrath, UWGOC resource development director. Other supporters were Davis Brothers, C’s Market, Red Baron, Springside at Seneca Hill, Kathy’s Cakes, Sweet Cindy’s Gluten Free Bakery, Dunkin’ Donuts, and Kinney Drugs.

All proceeds benefit food pantries at the Hannibal Resource Center, Catholic Charities of Oswego County, and the Salvation Army.

FULTON COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AGENCY UPDATES FULTON LIONS CLUB

FULTON, NY – Joseph Fiumara, center, executive director, Fulton Community Development Agency, made a presentation at at the Fulton Lions club’s March meeting. Fiumara elaborated on waterfront development plans for Lake Neatahwanta, improvements to Recreation Park, and progress made by the Fulton Footpaths organization.

The Heart of Fulton’ Visits Fulton Lions Club

FULTON, NY – Author Jim Farfaglia and Mary Kimball made a presentation to the Fulton Lions Club on their book, “The Heart of Fulton at Home and Abroad: World War II and the Korean War,” at the club’s February meeting.

Kimball and Farfaglia read excerpts from the book, which recounts personal stories of Fulton veterans and their families during the two wars.

Fulton Lions past president Leo Chirello is a Korean War veteran who contributed a memoir to the book.

They were joined by Fulton Lions President Dave Guyer.

In addition to the member induction, Rosie Taravella, regional CEO, Western and Central NY Region of the American Red Cross, gave a presentation on the agency’s many services.

She focused on a program that provides and installs free home smoke detectors, while educating families about fire safety, prevention, and escape.

Taravella also discussed the services the Red Cross offers active military, as well as the blood donation drives they are well-known for.
