“The fresh roses will come from Fulton Lions Past President Gail Jones, owner of DeVine Designs florist, Fulton. Anyone who buys a Loot ticket by February 1 will receive a certificate for a Dozen Rose Bouquet,” Guyer said. “It’s a perfect way to check Valentine’s Day flowers off your list, and the ticket you purchase could be worth $10,000. Fulton Lions Club Awards 2021 Dowd, Scaringi Memorial Scholarships

Samantha McRae and Skyler Gibson, both 2021 graduates of G. Ray Bodley High School, were awarded the Fulton Lions Club’s 2021 H. and Mary Dowd Memorial, and John Scaringi scholarships respectively, said Zach Merry, Fulton Lions past president and scholarship chair.

Each scholarship provides the winner with $750 per year for four years toward their college costs. McRae will be attending the University of Buffalo  in the Pharmacy Program. Her career goal is to work as a pediatric pharmacist at a hospital. Gibson will be attending SUNY Stony Brook where she will major in Biology/Pre-med, with the goal of becoming a physician.

“Harold ‘H’ Dowd was a member of the Fulton Lions Club for more than 40 years,” said David Guyer, club president. “ He served both our club and our community with dedication, selflessness and good humor. Mary Dowd was an honorary Fulton Lions Club member who always opened her home to the club and to foreign exchange students for years. John Scaringi was a longstanding, treasured member of the club.”

“Due to the continuing health crisis, the Fulton Lions Club  Lions Loot drawing for the second straight year will be a Facebook Live video event at 1:00 p.m., April 25,” said club President David Guyer. “Find us on Facebook under ‘Fulton NY Lions Club.’ This year, before drawing for the cash prizes, there will be a drawing for six gift baskets with assorted merchandise and gift cards. It’s our way of thanking all who have supported us by purchasing tickets this past year during these challenging times.

DISTRICT GOVERNOR VISITS JOINT FULTON-OSWEGO LIONS MEETING

FULTON, NY –Rosemarie Bush, district governor, New York State & Bermuda District 20-Y, Lions Clubs International, visited a joint meeting recently of the Fulton and Oswego Lions clubs. In Bush’s address to the clubs, she stressed her mission of embracing diversity and kindness for Lions members and the communities they serve. She also presented a recognition award to the Oswego Lions Club celebrating their 65th anniversary, and a recognition certificate to Fulton President David Guyer for completing his training as a Certified Guiding Lion. Certified Guiding Lions serve as mentors to Lions Clubs that are in distress due to low membership, financial hardship, leadership or any combination, Bush said.

From involving members in projects as local as cleaning up an area park or as far-reaching as bringing sight to the world's blind, Lions clubs have always embraced those committed to building a brighter future for their community. FULTON BLOCK BUILDERS VISITS FULTON LIONS CLUB

FULTON, NY –Linda Eagan, administrative director of Fulton Block Builders, (FBB), was the featured speaker at the September meeting of the Fulton Lions Club. Fulton President David Guyer, right, thanks Eagan for her presentation. To-date, FBB has awarded $500,000 in grants for neighborhood improvements, which translates to more than $2 million invested by homeowners in Fulton neighborhoods since the organization was founded in 2017. Fulton Lions Club provides financial assistance for those in need of eyeglasses, eye exams, and hearing aids to residents in the Greater Fulton area.

FULTON LIONS’ DUCK DERBY WILL BE LIVESTREAM ONLY

FULTON, NY – The Fulton Lions Club’s 30th annual Charby’s Duck Derby, Sunday, Sept. 13, will hold its event as a livestreamed video on Facebook and there will be no food, alcohol or entertainment this year due to Covid-19, said David Guyer, club president. 

“We are taking these steps to do all we can to make this event compliant with current Covid regulations,” Guyer said.  “As a result, we’ll be livestreaming the race at 1:00 p.m. and announcing the winners immediately afterward with another livestream on our Facebook page, ‘Fulton NY Lions Club’. Only Fulton Lions members will be allowed inside Tavern on the Lock when winners are announced. We are looking forward to returning next year with our full slate of food, entertainment and activities.

“There will be prizes for the top 32 finishers, as well as the last place duck, with a grand prize of $2,500 sponsored by the Medicine Place. To sweeten the pot, there will be an additional 10 prizes in  $25 lottery tickets sponsored by Dennis Hawthorne, Jr., Attorney at Law.

“Lions will be selling tickets the day of the race in the lower level of Tavern on the Lock from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.. 

 Tickets are $5 each. Ticket bundles include: Flock O’ Tickets, six for $25 with one free ticket; Big Quacker, 15 for $50 with five free tickets; and Mega Mallard, 30 tickets for $100 with ten free tickets. Duck tickets can be purchased the day of the event or from any Fulton Lion. Tickets can also be purchased at Mimi’s Drive-in, DeVine Designs by Gail, The Fulton Medicine Place, and Chirello Advertising. 

The event is named in memory of the late Donald “Charby” Charbonneau, Fulton Lions past president who created the event for the club three decades ago, Guyer said. “Charby was one of Fulton’s finest Lions, always quick with a joke, and ready to help whenever he was needed.”

FULTON LIONS’ DUCK DERBY ADAPTS COVID PROTOCOLS

FULTON, NY – The Fulton Lions Club’s 30th annual Charby’s Duck Derby, from noon to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, has adapted Covid-19 protocols for this year’s event, said David Guyer, club president.

A payloader full of ducks will race to the finish line in the Fulton Lions Club Charby’s Duck Derby. This is the derby’s 30th year. First prize is $2,500 and the event runs from Noon to 5 p.m., Sept. 13, with entertainment by the Doctor Boogie band.

“The City of Fulton has issued our derby permit based on our following the proper guidelines for holding the event this year,” Guyer said. “We are doing all we can to make this event compliant with all current Covid regulations and recommendations.

“Food and alcohol will be served. To purchase alcohol you must also purchase food. We will be providing wrist bands to anyone buying food who also wants to purchase alcohol provided by Tavern on the Loc

“A limited number of picnic tables will be available for seating and will be spaced at least six feet apart. We urge attendees, however, to bring their own chairs for seating.  

“We ask that anyone attending the event wear a face mask when not seated, and maintain social distancing at all times with people outside their own party. Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the venue.

“ In addition, we will be livestreaming the race and prize winner announcements on Facebook, as we did with our Lions Loot earlier this year.

 “There will by prizes for the 28 top finishers as well as the last place duck, with a grand prize of $2,500, sponsored by The Medicine Place.

“There will also be a drawing every 15 minutes for $25 in NYS Lottery tickets between 1-3:00 p.m., and $250 in lottery tickets, sponsored by Dennis Hawthorne, Jr., Attorney At Law,  will be raffled off during the event.”

 The event is in Canal Park, behind Tavern on the Lock. Tickets are $5 each.
